2017

We learned last week that our 2017 NAPLAN results were our BEST-EVER.

As you know, each year all students in Year 3, Year 5, Year 7 and Year 9 who attend an Australian public, catholic or private school complete the ‘National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy’ (NAPLAN) tests over three days in Term 2.  The students and their families receive information about the individual child’s results while a school receives each student’s results and school results compared to other schools in Australia.

Last week our school received our 2017 NAPLAN results and they were truly OUTSTANDING. In fact, they were the best results we have ever achieved. The 2017 results reflect the world’s best practice, innovative, and research-based teaching and learning programs and practices, leadership development programs, and parent participation programs our school learning community has effectively and successfully developed, implemented and evaluated over the past three years.

The most important NAPLAN data we receive is where our school’s performances and scores are compared to other schools in Australia that are similar to Auburn North. These schools are called ‘Like Schools’.  I am delighted to inform you that our:

·        Year 3 students outperformed ‘Like-Schools’ in all six areas.

·        Year 5 students outperformed ‘Like-Schools’ in five from six areas.

This means that our school outperformed Like Schools in 11 of the 12 areas. What an achievement!

Year 3 students outperformed ‘Like Schools’ in:

·        Writing

·        Spelling

·        Reading

·        Grammar and Punctuation

·        Numeracy (Number, Patterns and Algebra)

·        Numeracy (Data, Measurement, Space and Geometry).

Year 5 students outperformed ‘Like Schools’ in:

·        Writing

·        Spelling

·        Reading

·        Numeracy (Number, Patterns and Algebra)

·        Numeracy (Data, Measurement, Space and Geometry).

I hope you agree with me that our 2017 NAPLAN results are truly outstanding. They reflect the types of achievements each one of our Kindy to Year 6 students is making this year and they help demonstrate what a school learning community can achieve when staff, students and parents work, teach and learn ‘together in perfect harmony’. We really have developed a learning community that is something special, something wonderful and something exceptional. Congratulations all students, staff and parents.

While we are proud of these results, we are always determined at Auburn North to move FORWARD and do even better. Our leaders and teachers are presently analysing individual student results and our school results to further improve our teaching and learning programs so that each K-6 student exceeds their full academic potential and so our school performs even better next year.
