2013 Staff Professional Learning Award
From the 270 schools in the Region, we were the only school to receive this award because over the past 2 years we have developed, implemented and evaluated innovative, world's best-practice leadership development and teacher development programs that are facilitating students to exceed their full potential academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and creatively.
In the area of leadership, the 13 members of our distributed leadership team have participated in high quality long-term leadership development programs with leaders and managers from the private industry (eg. IT). These programs include the ‘Australian School of Applied Management Colloquium,' and ‘Change First' programs.
Our leaders also participate in a school-based leadership development program each fortnight for 60 minutes.
Our teacher professional learning programs are acknowledged across the Region as exemplary. Our weekly teacher development program is research-based where teachers research and further develop their ability to use best-practice teaching strategies to maximise student learning outcomes. Small teams of teachers observe one another teach and then provide their colleagues with constructive feedback to further improve teaching and learning.
We were also selected by the Melbourne based ‘Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership' (AITSL) to participate in an innovative program with Merrylands East Public School where Twitter has been used to make connections with teachers across Australia to share best-practice teaching methods to improve learning.
